It is that time where Americans annually marvel at a few words on a precious piece of parchment. For it is marvelous that people of an entire nation could and would declare themselves free from all else except a reliance on each other foresworn by a common pledge of "our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honour". The Declaration of Independence is too profound to hope for a commensurate celebration - we could never approach, much less equal, the magnitude of the thing. But there are two things all Americans can do this weekend:  read those words again and reaffirm our allegiance to the United States of America.
