Mr. & Mrs. Smith live at 1234 Baltic Ave, Anytown USA. They have worked hard all their lives, paid off a mortgage and suffered the unspeakable grief of having a child returned from Iraq with a missing leg or, worse yet, in a flag draped coffin. Bad enough, for sure. Now only a vote in the U.S Senate can prevent Mr. Jones, developer extrordinaire, from driving up to the Smith home in his 100% deductible, 8mpg Hummer subsidized by Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and handing them an eviction notice. It seems Mr. Jones has a scheme, the construction of which requires the demolition of the Smith home and will produce $37.83 per month in taxes to the local authorities. Mr. & Mrs. Smith, flabbergasted beyond comprehension, promptly make a torch out of their American flag in protest of the madness only to be arrested. Longshot possiblility, granted; but longshots come in everyday. A nag won the 10th at Churchill Downs yesterday and paid 47:1 Sadly, I was not down. Point is you can let you Senator know you love your free right of dissent and how you feel about the upcoming vote on the flag burning amendment at:
or not: your choice. But IMHO, this amendment needs a resounding defeat and the nerds in the House that offered it up, need an abrupt career change come November 2006 - and that day will come.
